It was named after Robert Carl Sticht, a metallurgist and manager of the Queenstown mine in Australia. He was one of the first to recognize Stichtite as a new mineral. Stichtite is commonly found alongside Serpentine. This is a soft stone, only rating at around a 2 out of 10 on the mohs scale, and it is not uncommon for it to be stabilized to maintain its integrity.
