William Morris Strawberry Thief 2 - Place Mat John DempseyStrawberry Thief was designed by William Morris in 1883 as a textile and is one of his most popular repeating designs, based on the thrushes he noticed stealing fruit from his kitchen garden in Oxfordshire. To print the pattern Morris used the painstaking indigo discharge method he admired above all forms of printing. Once happy with the outcome, he registered the design with the Patents Office. This pattern was the first design using the technique in
